An Interview with Amber Swindlehurst-Costume Designer

Throughout this winter the Butterfly takes us on a journey into the interesting worlds of the actors, artists and crew members who brought the film into life and as well of many other powerful souls who have their messages and stories to share with the world. Take yourself a moment and just follow…

“BUTTERFLY” ‘ s costume designer Amber Swindlehurst is a young and talented Blackpool-based costume/textile designer and stylist whose custom-made “butterfly-wing cloak” , which we can see throughout the film, is a noteworthy piece of art on its own.

FAVOURITE QUOTE

‘Sometimes you just have to put on lip gloss and pretend to be psyched’ -Mindy Kaling

WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OF THE FILMMAKING PROCESS AND/OR HOW DID YOU GROW THROUGH THE PROCESS (IF YOU FEEL YOU DID) ?

My most memorable moment was when we first started filming and I took a step back and really looked at everyone and everything coming together, it was a really special moment for me. Through out the development of our project I feel that I realised that it’s ok to accept and love the way that we change through out our experiences.

DOES AN ARTIST ALWAYS HAVE TO SUFFER IN SOME WAY IN ORDER TO CREATE?

Not always, you can create something, that much like Butterfly is for me, feels more like an artistic indulgence rather than work. You enjoy every moment, truly exploring yourself and the way you view the world.

NAME ONE THING EVERYONE OF US COULD  DO TO MAKE THE WORLD A MORE TOLERANT AND LOVING PLACE?

Consider the consequences of your words as they can often become someone else’s actions.

WHAT IS LOVE?

An all encompassing feeling that we fall into in varying degrees with everyone and everything we encounter around us.

  WHAT’S YOUR NEXT PROJECT?

I am currently in my Final Year at the University of Huddersfield, creating a portfolio of work based around Holly Webb’s book ‘Rose and the Magician’s Mask’.

ASK ONE QUESTION FOR THE NEXT PERSON TO BE INTERVIEWED

If you could experience the world through another person’s or animal’s eyes what or who would it be?
